I am writing this letter as a reference for Jeff Collins and K-9 Orthotics in Dartmouth, N.S., Canada. I have used K-9 Orthotics on two different occasions, with tremendous results both times.

The first case involved a 90 kg English Mastiff who had undergone limb sparing surgery for osteosarcoma of the radius. Unfortunately, the screws were unable to hold the plate in a stable position due to the dog's large size. Jeff was able to design a form fitted plastic splint that the owner is able to easily place on the leg and tighten with a simple Velcro closure. This has allowed the dog to have full, unrestricted use of the leg with full weight bearing.

The second case involved a ten year old 68 kg mix breed dog with grade four bilateral hip dysplasia. The dog had been dealing well with hip lameness through a combination of pain relievers, chondro-protective medications and acupuncture. The dog then slipped and tore ligaments in his right hock. Physiotherapy, semi-rigid splints, acupuncture, and massage failed to give the hock any stability. Surgery was not an option for this dog, so K-9 Orthotics was contacted. Jeff designed a splint that hinged to allow a normal range of flexion and extension in the hock but does not allow any lateral or medial instability. This splint literally allowed the dog to walk again with no discomfort or reluctance.

Our practice strives to offer the best medical care and quality of life for our patients. I am very pleased with the results I have had using the service of K-9 Orthotics and would highly recommend calling Jeff for advice whenever an orthotic device might be useful. The services of K-9 Orthotics allow me to offer my clients a new level of care that was previously unavailable to me.

Sincerely,

Jim Berry, DVM

Langley had TPLO Surgery in 2017 he had a long recovery. Then in November 2019 his other leg started to show signs of deterioration. I decided that at his age of 10 years old I did not want to put him through another surgery. I went with both legs being braced because I didn't feel like he was stable on the surgery leg as well. I brought Langley in for a fitting and not long after he is wearing his new Stifle Orthosis. I feel at ease knowing that he is more protected from further injury. I have seen a huge improvement. I highly recommend using this service and devices. I am so glad I found Jeff and his Team at K-9 Orthotics. Lisa - Lunenburg, NS

Laika was feeling left out, so we got her a brace too. Actually in December 2019 she fell on some ice and fractured her leg and probably tore her cruciate. Since I already knew how well the braces worked there was no consideration. She got a set of Stifle Orthosis as well. She is doing well and her 14th birthday just passed in January 2020. She will keep the braces on even after the leg heals to keep her safe and secure. Thanks so much Jeff and the K-9 Team!! Repeat customer, Lisa
