Prosthetics

Prosthetic Features

Prosthetics are made using thermosetting laminate plastic and closed cell thermo foams, providing an intimate fitting for optimal weight bearing comfort and functional use. The prosthetic paws have a rocker bottom surface enabling a smoother gait minimizing the energy required when walking. The rubber grip on the paw allows for good traction on slippery surfaces and prolongs the use of the prosthetic paw material. Custom colours and cosmetic designs are available upon request.

Carpal Prosthetics

A carpal disarticulating prosthetic is for patients amputated at the carpal level, that still have their medial and lateral process left intact along with the distal ends of the ulna and radial bones. The distal ends of the long bones provide a ideal weight bearing surface for the forces to be transmitted through, and the lateral and medial process provide an hour glass shape with the distal end providing a bulbous shape, this combination will allow for suspension of the prosthetic through a suction suspension.

Tarsal Prosthetic

A tarsal level amputation is ideal for prosthetic application to assist with the rear leg function for the canines ambulatory movement. Like the anatomical shape of the carpal joint, the tarsal joints bulbous shape and distal long bones ends provide ideal elements for prosthetic use. Where possible, reconstructive orthopaedic surgery can assist canines with optimal conditions, for prosthetic applications. Lightweight prosthetic designs and materials enhance the user's activity and comfort levels. Customized aesthetics finish of the prosthetic leg are available, as well as standard body colors.

Partial Paw Prosthetics

Helpful for: Long-term ambulatory support

Congenital deformity or traumatic injury, affecting the entire or partial paw remaining can be addressed with a prosthetic for a sounder weight-bearing limb while preventing secondary related sores developing. Rear leg paw prosthetic is a good way of addressing any tissue break down that may be occurring from ground strike and paw push off during gait cycle. Amputated sites with a skin graft can be protected with a thick gel lining in the prosthetic to act as another layer of skin for protection and comfort.
