Features

The use of orthotic devices can often result in a reduction in the amount of pain medication required to maintain comfort, and can be more practical and less costly than other forms of treatment. Orthotics can also be used before or after surgery, and be a successful part of a rehabilitation program. Orthotics are designed for the following three applications:

1. Prophylactic
2. Rehabilitative
3. Functional

Prophylactic

Prophylactic orthotic products are designed to prevent or reduce the severity of joint injury.

Dogs that have a non-functional limb or paw can use an orthotic to support the limb or paw in a correct position so that they may bear weight. In some patients an orthotic device can be used to prevent further trauma to a limb.

Rehabilitative

Rehabilitative orthotics are used to support and stabilize a joint while assisting or restricting range of motion.

Dogs having CCL or cranial cruciate ligament injuries, in particular, benefit from a rehabilitative orthotic device to recover from injury, and often for long term treatment.

Functional

For dogs with hip dysplasia, a functional orthosis provides support, while stabilizing the hip joint and increasing the range of joint motion by assisting with flexion and extension.

Prosthetics

Prosthetics are made using thermosetting laminate plastic and closed cell thermo foams, providing an intimate fitting for optimal weight bearing comfort and functional use.  The prosthetic paws have a rocker bottom surface enabling a smoother gait minimizing the energy required when walking. The rubber grip on the paw allows for good traction on slippery surfaces and prolongs the use of the prosthetic paw material. Custom colours and cosmetic designs are available upon request.

Wheelchair Features

Our 3-wheeled dog wheelchairs are fabricated using lightweight aluminum for strength and durability. The axle blocks and third wheel swivel base are made of machined and coated aluminum. The wheel assemblies have sealed roller bearings with flush mount hubs to reduce scuffing of walls and other obstacles. The rear harness is specially manufactured to fit each dog’s specific measurements using lightweight netting for optimum contour, fit and breathability. The superior strapping system allows for increased adjustability. The front girdle harness is finished with a cushioned soft interface for comfort.  Both in and out of the wheelchair, the rear harness allows for excellent controlled assistance using our easy carry handle and is easily attached and removed from special mounts.

Our 5-wheeled dog wheelchairs is manufactured to the same standards as the 3 wheeled model, except it is also is equipped with a front handle for the handler to assist the canine during early rehabilitation movements.
